This is the first Book (on a blog) on the Susan Cox Powell family murder / suicide case in progress

Compiled by an Asian American dad  who wants to public to also remember the unsolved Murder of Robert Eric Wonewhose murder(s) also got away despite obvious clues. I also wrote about a story of Fundamentalist Mormons vs Child Protective Services in a book called "The Flowers Cried in Texas" at the Yearning for Zion polygamist compound in Texas. That was a case in which the children feared the CPS more than their polygamist parents or their prophet and authorities feared another fiery apocalyptic end like the Waco siege. But Josh Powell indeed staged his own fiery end for him and the surviving boys of the family of Josh and Susan Powell and boys Braden and Charlie. Josh  was clearly driven by demons, the Mormons often like to call themselves "saints" as in "latter day", and victims were certainly angels if not  saints.

The story of a couple who met at a LDS singles group, married in a Temple wedding (which is the highest kind they have) and have two beautiful boys. Of all American religions and ethnic groups, the Mormons perhaps have the most to brag about upholding model marriages and families. But in this case the marriage heads for the rocks through disputes and even bankruptcy which first attracts national attention when who Nancy Grace describes as a "gorgeous 28 year old stock broker mother two" goes missing when the father Josh Powell returns from a midnight camping trip in subfreezing cold with a story about taking the boys for sledding and s'mores. There are suspicions, but authorities claim they don't have enough evidence to name Powell as more than a person of interest after searching his house, asking for numerous interviews, and seizing property from his house.

Maxwell conducted a first interview with Powell that night, followed by a second the following day. He immediately identified Powell as the prime suspect in Susan Powell’s disappearance and likely murder. Maxwell spearheaded the investigation from that first day through the Feb. 5, 2012, murder-suicide in Washington during which Powell killed his sons and then himself, to its declaration as a cold case on May 20, 2013.

Now in 2012, questions in the mind of many of his possible guilt are answered when the boys start drawing pictures of their mother in the back of the van on the camping trip, that she was looking for gems in the mines but didn't come back with dad, and point to a woman's chest saying "oweee". The Dad From Hell slams the door on a worried social worker who frantically dials 9-11, while Josh says "I have a surprise for you" and takes a hatchet to his screaming and crying boys, sends out e-mails saying "I'm sorry goodbye" and blowing up his boys and himself in a blazes that sends debris flying all over the Puyallup neighborhood.

Meanwhile, Josh Powell's family condemned how Josh was the one who was bullied and abused into an apparent suicide double murder, as his sister Alina remains sure that Josh was innocent and his aunt and uncle blame the press and authorities and unfair persecution for his suicide.

I have listened to all episodes of the podcasts so far and I think the information about Josh's background and behavior is relevant in the context of helping others recognize this type of behavior in others. (And not brush it off.) It points out patterns of his behavior, and that of his father. The podcast does have at the end of each episode, information on how to get help if the listener is in an abusive relationship.

I'm not sure how pertinent it was in this last episode to spend the time they did going over the background of the investigator, but the stuff about Josh's background was, in my opinion, a good thing to discuss as a society.

Maybe this story can be seen as a cautionary tale which can help someone recognize emotional problems in a family member and point them towards help before more serious things happen.

Maybe this story can help someone who is in a similar situation as Susan to get away, like Catherine did.

So, a detective on the case has decided to write a book. I wonder if it will really answer the questions why they didn't arrest Josh for his admission to taking two very young boys out in the middle of nowhere in 7 degree (way below freezing) weather; and then leaving them alone in the van.

The other thing of interest in this article : "West Valley City’s redacted Susan Powell case file formed the basis for the 'Cold' podcast series." If they really are working from the redacted information (which I looked at some of when it was released to the public); if they will finally admit that Susan was seen alive and well as they were heading out to go camping (at the gas station where they got gas) that night; debunking 99% of the proclaimed timelines. Unfortunately the "redaction" included where the gas station was located.

My main regret is clicking on this link which i'm afraid will somehow keep this story in the public.

Detective Maxwell stated, "There's way too much information, way too many details." If there was so much information and details, then why wasn't a circumstantial case brought again Josh Powell? Cases become "cold" when there is little or no information. Circumstantial cases can, and have, been won even when no body is found. Case was blown.

Why are trolls still saying the case is not notable or that Josh did not kill Susan and was alive when they left to go camping? Sounds like the same trolls pushing 9/11 and Skripal poison false flag theories.

Chuck Cox, from Oregon, has now dedicated his life to finding his daughter and spends most of his days traveling along Interstate 84 - where he believes Josh Powell may have disposed of her body - and following up tips.
He retired from his job as a veteran crash investigator with the Federal Aviation Administration so he could spend his days searching.
His experience tells him his daughter - who was just 28-years-old when she disappeared - is dead, but the father in him dearly wants to believe she is alive.

"I'm not trying to hide anything," Powell nervously tells Maxwell. "Then I need you to answer these questions," he fires back. A day after Susan Cox Powell went missing from her West Valley home in 2009, police attempted to interview her husband, Josh Powell, at the West Valley Police Department. But, as has been noted in several previously unsealed documents, Powell seemed to be evasive with detectives, not giving complete answers to their question.....

"I noticed in retrospect that there were clues that we probably didn't even notice were there," Graves said. "For instance, the killing of animals, small animals without any heart. It's apparently a sign of a potential killer."
Graves also disclosed information about her father, Steven Powell. Powell was arrested in September 2011 on charges of voyeurism and possessing child porn.
"I knew as a young child and especially as a teenager that (my father) was going down a pretty bad path and we chose, my husband and I, early in our marriage that we wouldn't have that strong of a connection with him for the benefit of our children," she said. "We wanted to make sure that (our kids) were safe from the twisted effects that we saw in my sibilings."

BY  THE ASSOCIATED PRESS May 21, 2013 Utah police said Monday they believe Susan Powell's brother-in-law was "heavily involved" in getting rid of her body, even as they announced they couldn't solve the sensational case of a mother's disappearance after a nearly 31/2;-year investigation.  closing the investigation of Susan Powell's disappearance, citing a lack of leads coupled with Michael C. Why didn't West Valley City Name Josh as Suspect?

These comments blame attitudes that side with the father against the woman because of the local culture / religion. Sounds outrageous but it smells like somebody did not want Josh to be prosecuted, nothing else explains why the held so much information that makes Josh look obviously guilty for so long, and that Utah authorities were angry when it was released:

      • "After all, it's just another mouthy woman that got what she deserved" said an unnamed West Valley Utah town council member.
      • Joseph Smith Jr.: If it was the other way around they would have arrested Susan. Utah is still culturally geared towards the husband and father is sacrosanct til proven otherwise; even little weasels like Josh Powell. Any other jurisdiction in America would have arrested him on the spot or had a grand jury indict him before the week was out; not Utah.

Older sister Denise Cox spoke to the Enquirer shortly after the memorial service for her two young nephews,
'We know without a doubt that Josh killed Susan. It was a cold, premeditated murder.
'Before she went missing she told me that Josh cooked dinner for the family. I didn't think much of it at the time but he never did that.
'He believed women are inferior and should always be the one to cook and clean.
'Josh knew a lot about poisons and we are convinced he put something lethal in Susan's food.'
her family believes Josh poisoned his wife, put her body in his car, dumped her body during the camping trip and then disposed of her body the next day, likely in one of the abandoned mine shafts in the area.

Kas~~LOL, I don’t have a toothpick stuck in my mouth either. I agree that the connection between Josh and his father is strange. Josh does act very juvenile for a man, I believe around 34 yrs old. I would like to know Steven’s whereabouts at the time Susan went missing. It is 872 miles approximately, from Utah to Washington. Did Steven report into work on those couple of days? Surely LE has checked this out.

Susan goes missing. Josh takes the boys on that camping trip in freezing temps, leaving at midnight. Then we have that wet stain on the carpet left with fans drying it. The carpet must have been really soaked as when you shampoo a carpet, normally, you do not need fans to dry it. Susan’s purse and cell phone are still at the house. We have Josh deciding to cook pancakes for the family and asking his father how to make them. This was out of the ordinary for him to cook. Pancakes are made and then dished up to the family individually. Susan tells her friends that she has not been feeling good for the past couple of weeks. Josh is speaking to his father more frequently in the days leading up to Susan’s disappearance. When Josh gets off the phone, he is nasty with Susan. This indicates that Steven is telling Josh some pretty bad things about Susan.

When you take all those things into consideration, it looks like Susan may have lost her life before Josh went camping. Possibly she was in the van, deceased, when he left on that trip. Josh may have told Susan that he wanted to share her with his father. This would freak Susan out and an altercation ensued that got totally out of control. Josh appears to be very emotionally unbalanced and his father seems to have some psychological hold on him. Josh must obey his father, Susan refuses to have sex with Steven and ends up on the living room floor, dead.

The other scenario is that Susan was abducted by Steven with Josh’s blessing on the night he went camping. This is why I wonder if Steven has an alibi for that time frame.
