Her husband, Josh Powell, was the only person of interest ever named by ...Bremner intends to file a civil lawsuit seeking damages against Steve Powell on behalf of the girls. Bremner said she will file Friday because it will be the end of the criminal case and she’ll have more access to police records and so she can serve Steve Powell with the lawsuit in the courtroom.
Powell’s lawyers argued it’s practice for judges to favor the defendant when the court can’t determine the date of crimes for which the laws have changed. Therefore, defense attorneys wrote, Culpepper should follow the pre-2006 law that makes the penalties zero to 12 months on each count.
The defense attorneys want the 14 counts to run concurrent. Powell has been in jail since his arrest in September and will receive credit for that time. One of Steve Powell’s defense lawyers, Mark Quigley, said the Pierce County jail awards early release for good behavior. With the time served and credit for good behavior, the concurrent sentences of up to 12 months would mean Steve Powell’s incarceration is over.
"He’d be out on Friday," Quigley said.

At the time of Powell’s death, the Utah home was still listed in both Josh and Susan Powell’s names.
Downing said a Washington judge also named the Coxes personal administrators for their grandsons’ estates. Josh Powell had insurance policies in his sons’ names worth $500,000, as well as $1 million policies in both his and his missing wife’s names. Those policies are now the subject of a court action between Josh Powell’s siblings and mother and the Coxes.
He said Josh Powell’s family received notice of the Coxes’ appointment as administrators for their daughter’s estate.
In that role, the Coxes have a duty to marshal "any and all" properties to which Susan Powell would be entitled and manage and protect it "until she’s found" or officially declared dead. Downing said the Coxes now are responsible for ensuring the mortgage is being paid and rent collected on the 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom Utah home

"There were about 15 images [on Josh Powell's personal computer] that I found the most disturbing, and they felt very lifelike. [They were] computerized drawing of adults and children having sex in various ways. Whoever built the files had a clear interest in incest themes, which within a parenting evaluation did not bode well with me." "We needed to know a lot more about Mr. Powell and that's why I referred him to a psychosexual evaluation." Kiirisi Hellewell, one of Susan's friends, explains to Ling what life was like for Susan and her boys before she went missing. "It had gotten so bad [financially] that their boys didn't have enough food to eat. They were eating fruits and vegetables out of their garden and off their trees because Josh wouldn't let her buy food and the boys were starting to have health problems." Darleen Allen, Susan's friend, adds: "Susan came to me and told me it became abusive physically. That he had shoved her and slapped her and tried to lock her out of the house." Jovanna Owings, a friend of Susan's who was with Susan and Josh the evening she disappeared, talks to Laura about how Josh was uncharacteristically nice to Susan that night. "I've thought about that [night] a lot and I think at that point I was probably used. I may have been the only chance he [Josh] had of having one person stand up and say 'he was nice to her.'" Chuck Cox, Susan's father, reveals one of the early conversations had with Josh after Susan went missing. "Josh called her [Jennifer, Josh's sister] and she said, 'Everybody is looking for you.' He said, 'well why would everybody be looking for us?' She asked, 'where are the kids?' He said, 'the kids are safe,' and I'm going 'what? What do you mean by the kids are safe?' She said, 'where is Susan? What have you done? What's going on?' He hung up the phone. I knew at that time that he was responsible for her disappearance and that he was lying about everything." Robin Synder, a waitress and possible eyewitness, tells Ling her memories of seeing Josh Powell and his boys the morning their mother went missing. "I noticed that there was a man with two kids over in the corner. They were eating danishes and the man had his youngest kid on his right leg so I just walked over and got a high chair. His oldest boy looked up at me and asked 'do you know what happened to my mom?'" Judy and Chuck Cox were fighting to keep Susan and Josh's children in their custody as they believed Josh was involved with Susan's disappearance. Judy tells Ling about her feelings the morning when she had to turn over the two boys to Josh for their tragic, final visit. "I had a feeling that I didn't want them to go. I just felt something was wrong. But I just let it go." "The judge should not have allowed visitations. I know Josh was very upset and I thought if he is feeling cornered, he'll do something." Sadly, the Cox family attorney tells E! Investigates, "Everybody had all the red flags and the system failed them." E! TACOMA — On a website created by Steven Powell’s daughter to counter claims about her family, Alina Powell said her father was “denied the right to defend himself in court because the relevant arguments and evidence showing his innocence were not allowed during the trial.”
Steven Powell’s attorneys presented no defense at trial. He was convicted of 14 counts of voyeurism and faces up to 70 years in prison when he is sentenced.
On the website, Alina Powell suggested the evidence police and prosecutors against her father was fabricated. The pictures presented at trial may have been Photoshopped, she claims.
“Overall, the police had access to all the resources needed to fabricate the so-called evidence brought against Steve Powell. The suspicious or overly convenient circumstances of the alleged crime and evidence, as well as the advance preparations the police were clearly making leading up to the search, also suggest foul play,” the website says

“I don’t think she sees the world right now. In her mind she is trying to settle what she sees as an injustice,” Kirk Graves, Jennifer’s husband, told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview about his troubled sister-in-law. “She doesn't have anything to say that is meaningful.”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Josh was the prime suspect in the disappearance of Susan, whovanished in December 2009 when he claims he went on a last minute camping trip with their young sons, in the middle of freezing cold winter in West Valley City, Utah.
In one online rant, Alina specifically pinpoints people she has grievances with in each clip, and before the footage of the Powells playing in the park she addresses her estranged sister directly.
“Jennifer Graves has been running around posing in the media as if she were a part of our family... She’s not,” reads the text on the black screen. “She claims to have a bunch of inside knowledge about our dad even though she hasn’t seen or spoken to him – even by phone – more than a handful of times in the past 20 years.”
However, instead of staking claim to her family background, Kirk told RadarOnline.com that his wife is trying to do the exact opposite. “That’s funny because I think everyone knows Jennifer has been separated from that group for 17 years. Nothing she has said has implied she has been a part of them recently,” he explained.

Prosecutors said in March 2004, Powell
wrote he and Susan were a perfect match since he was a voyeur and she an
exhibitionist. In December 2003, he wrote he had been stalking Susan
and making secret videos of her. In April 2003, Powell wrote Susan liked
to be admired and that he was a voyeur, prosecutors said. In September
2010, he wrote he was going nuts and had been out of control sexually
almost his entire life.
Prosecutors Grant Blinn and Bryce Nelson
argued the entries are relevant because they show Powell’s history of
voyeurism. Culpepper is expected to rule on the journals issue Tuesday
morning.

TACOMA, Wash. — Jennifer Graves wanted answers.
It had been six weeks since Susan Cox Powell had gone missing from her West Valley home and speculation was growing that her brother Josh Powell was responsible.
Now Graves was headed to Washington state to confront him herself at the home of her father and get a confession. But Josh remained silent.
Her father Steven Powell did not.
“Oh, it wasn't good. At one point he let out this string of swear words. And my husband was there with me, and holding it together pretty well. And we knew going in that it was probably going to be tense because I went in there for that reason,” Graves said.
It was Jan. 22, 2010, the last time she would speak to her father, who today sits in a Washington jail cell facing voyeurism and child pornography charges. Monday, the tragic family story centers on the family patriarch and enters its final chapter as the trial of Steven Powell begins.
A review of thousands of pages of public records, including divorce documents, social services reports and personal emails, and dozens of interviews with family members and friends reveals the startling impact Steven Powell has had on his ex-wife and five children. It is a legacy of harm that Graves believes would have continued to a third generation if left unchecked.
"There's a whole lot of parallels between my dad and Josh," Graves said. "I mean, it's really actually kind of scary how many lines are drawn between the two of them. And it's very possible if Josh (had been) allowed to keep the kids that the boys would have ended up following in his footsteps.
